We got our "black lab" Makena when she was less than a year old. As she got older we noticed her tail is curly like a question mark. It's not like the usual straight tail like most dogs. Does any owners have dogs like this? Could she be a mix?

I'm (so people tell me) still looking very good for my vintage (all me own - mostly brown - hair, and my original teeth!!) - As a 1956 model I'm still quite sporty, but the bodywork has seen better days, the piston rings are a bit worn and the paint job is a little dull!!.

Welcome. You've come to the right place!

According to the breeding standard, it isn't supposed to be curly, but we tend not to worry about that here. Have a look around the site for pics of Sasha and Lucy, owned by KarenM and ForensicPsych respectively - to name two, and you'll see that you're not alone.

Yup!!! My Lucy pup has quite a curly tail! She is, however, a mix with some other type of breed. Here's a picture of her curly, curly tail.

Great to see those curly tail. They are a breed of there own. Curly tail Labs. We got Sasha from the Michigan SPCA. They said she was a Lab and Spaniel mix. As you can see by her pictures she looks lab, all but that tail. We love it!

Ian has said that her tail points where she is going rather than where she has been.

no they shouldn't curl at all.. but it's not a health issue so why worry?? lol. She may well have some other breed in there.. but as long as she's loved.. does it matter?
I'll attempt to post a piccie of my boy Homer.. champion bloodlines, all lab thru and thru but his tail does curl.. not good for the show ring, but who cares?!

I have had 4 labs over my life, 2 yellows and 2 blacks. One yellow and Holly mu current bitch have/had perfect straight tails, one yellow and my current black dog, Boris have a tail that they carry up and curved. Doesn't bother me, I think the dog looks happier!

By the way Lab, Springer Spaniel crosses do tend to look almost 100% Labrador. My sister has one. If it was not for the fact it's mother is her Springer Bitch you would think it was a pure bred black lab.

Great looking yellow lab. Very muscular, rugged build. I don't think his tail is curly. He just carries it a little higher than most. Karen's Sasha has a curly tail, but looks completely lab otherwise. I think you have answered the question as to what she is actually mixed with. Karen thought it was spaniel.
