I'm been wondering about this... I know with black labs you either get black eyes or brown eyes (correct me if there's more I'm unaware of). I love the way the bright brown eyes look against a shiny black coat. What I wanted to know was, are they brown when the pup is born? Or do all pups have black eyes which turn brown?

All puppies eye's are blue until the pigment comes in (7-8 weeks about).. I have never seen a Lab with Black Eye's, but the correct color eyes for a Black Lab, is a dark brown (what they call Burnt Sugar coloration). Yellows are the same. Chocolates are brown to hazel. Light brown eye's/ yellow eyes are not desirable, but not a big deal IMHO. My Chocolate boy's eye's are lighter then what you would call hazel. I don't consider it a huge deal !

Above is an example of light eyes on a Chocolate (this is my Chlt boy, Rocky)

This is Dixie, our resident senior, pictured at 7 years young (she is now almost 9 yrs old). This would an example of "burnt sugar" coloration.

You will find some Finished Champions have light eyes. Again, it's nothing serious as it can be easily bred out.

Lovely Pictures Becky, more please.

Labs have a look and eyes you could drown in.
